As the fastest-growing motorsport in the world right now, drifting has gone global with no signs of slowing down. In Kenya in 2024 we have experienced a huge growth and interest in the sport, with several drifting events already taking place, including the East African Drift Championship, the Tuner MotorShow Event, several showcasing events as well the RevUp car park takeover at Adams Arcade. The opening of a dedicated “drift academy” by Crabmen East Africa in Mogotio, Baringo County also adds huge potential to the growth of this very exciting sport.

Built from scratch by BOOSTED AUTO254 in Langata, this BMX e30 classic has been fully modified for drifting sport. Powered by a fully modified 1JZ Toyota engine, ChaseBays Hydro-brakes adjust the braking forces, Maxpeedingrod's coilover suspensions are fitted all round and the engine powered by a FuelTech FT450 ECU, this machine is an absolute beast on the track, . . . thrills, fun and adrenaline are guaranteed for drivers and spectators !

Eat. Sleep. Drift. Repeat

In drift events the drivers race to successfully complete a course while being judged point-by-point on the quality of their drifting skills. They intentionally make the car spin sideways, causing the car to oversteer, in order to achieve a drift state.

Sideways is the new forward

The screeching noise of spinning tyres and the ridiculous amounts of tyre smoke is incredible, all adding to the excitement of the event. In tandem drifting 2 drivers will compete at high speed, with one driver leading and the other driver chasing while inches away from each other, operating right at the edge of control.

THE ENGINE

The car is installed with a 2500cc non-VVT-i 1JZ Toyota engine, modified from twin-turbo to a Celica T3 aftermarket turbo, with a Subaru front mount intercooler, cone filter intake and a Subaru performance radiator. It is coupled to a BMW F10 Getrag 5 speed manual gearbox and is powered by a FuelTech FT450 ECU engine management system.
